PAPERCRAFT OBJECTS: FINAL REVISION

Image
The final 3D model  first print template The first prototype. I decided to re-do this and fix the template because there were too many folds at the top and it was making gluing all the parts together difficult. I decided to make the shapes bigger and remove repeating parts so the gluing process would be easier and they wouldn't clump up. The final.

PAPERCRAFT OBJECTS: FIRST PROTOTYPE

I think my prototype had too many folds, which made trying to fold the object into how its supposed to look difficult. when I remake this, instead of printing out one shape 6 times, I'm going to create three shapes: the top triangle, the base shape, and the bottom base and glue them together once each part is assembled. sticking to this method instead of trying to shape one flat into a lantern might help with creating a stronger and more firm design. I want to change the template because I realized that trying to fold one object too many times makes the paper hard to work with, and it didn't stay true to the original design.

PAPERCRAFT OBJECTS: PRINTED TEMPLATES: Lantern

Image
for the object of significance, I wanted to recreate a traditional lantern that is used in many regions in South West Asia and North Africa. this lantern is important to me, and reminds me of my childhood because these lanterns were used when my family and I would take trips to the desert in my parents home as apart of our Bedouin cultural customs. the lanterns were used as light sources when it became dark, which inspired me to try and install a small light from inside the lantern print out. some examples of what these lanterns looked like: for the designs on the lanterns, like the ones in the example pictures, I wanted to use the surfaces of the paper once printed out to draw and cut out. these designs will make the light visible and they will help decorate the object, and make it look like a cultural lantern.
